En Primeur Old Mundullo Australian Shiraz

Posted by: RJ Spagnols, Monday, September 22, 2008

This full-bodied wine sourced from Old Mundullo vineyards comes with Shiraz Genuwine Winery Dried Grape Skins and untoasted American oak shavings. Warm black fruit and berries entice the nose, while concentrated flavours of red fruit, oak and chocolate round out the experience.

I love Shiraz, especially from Australia and this wine does not disappoint. This wine can be enjoyed young, as quickly as 4 months of aging; however it will continue to mature beautifully. I was fortunate to have a friend who was kind enough to give me a few bottles that were ages slightly more than a year. This wine is a great addition to the cellar.

I would like to know how this wine compares to the Cru Select Australian Shiraz Viognier. Has anyone made both kits to supply a comparison? If you have made both wines or have tasted both wines I’d like to know if both wines are different enough in taste to merit making both kits. Is it worth doing the Cru Select Australian Shiraz Viognier if you already have the En Primeur? Will the Cru Select Australian Shiraz Viognier pale in comparison or will it surprise?

This is my first batch of homemade wine. It was bottled in May, I wanted to wait unti December before tasting it. But I was not able to contain myself anymore :-) So yesterday I opened a bottle. I was very impressed by the quality of this wine. Everything is great : colour, smell, taste. And it is only 4 months old !

It will be very difficult fo me now to buy some wine from the liquor store. I'm definitively hooked to this hobby.
