Cellar Classic Winery Rosso Grande Eccellente

Posted by: RJ Spagnols, Monday, September 22, 2008

Ten years ago, Rosso Grande was launched with great show and quickly became the most talked about and popular wine kit of its time. Today, we’d like to introduce you to the next evolution of this masterpiece. Deep, dark, and rich, this assertive wine is bold in all aspects. A delectable bouquet of sweet ripe berries, spices, and farm cherries opens up to the palate, stacked with juicy fruit flavours and firmly structured tannins. Fermented on Merlot winery grape skins and un-toasted American Oak, this wine is sure to create new waves of excitement.

Started this kit in November 2010. Bottled in January 2011. I purchased this kit on the advice of the my local wine store because I wanted to try something with real grape skins in it. I also wanted a comparison/contrast to a "low end" cab kit I bought a while back. This is the 4th kit that I've made (I mention this to give background that I'm still new to making wine, but no novice to enjoying it!).

I absolutely LOVE this wine! The oak is present but not overpowering and even at this young age the wine lives up to the description fairly well. Although it stands very well on its own to enjoy, with a couple of months in the cellar I'm sure this would be an ideal wine for that weekend dinner where you've splurged for that choice cut of beef or lamb. I can't wait for it to age a little longer so that I can see how the structure develops. This kit cemented my love affair with making wine and I will be buying this kit again after I explore some of the other offerings.
